Emerging issues

Across Australia, one construction worker every two days is lost to suicide. This adds up to more than 190 suicide cases in the construction industry per year. According to the Australian Men’s Health Forum, construction industry workers have higher risk of suicide (53%) when compared to employed men across different industries in Australia. These staggering numbers highlight the seriousness of mental health conditions in the workplace and the importance of providing adequate support. St John SA offers a Mental Health First Aid course that teaches the skills to understand and identify colleagues who may be experiencing issues with their mental health.
