FAiS 11 The FAiS program is complimentary for primary schools and students, and in addition to gaining vital knowledge and skills, each child will receive take-home resources that encourage engagement with the first aid topic.

Overview

Teacher’s quick thinking saves student’s life Each session ranges from 30 to 90 minutes and is flexible to suit the age of the students and lesson times. It is suggested that students undertake the FAiS program annually in order to refresh skills. 12-year-old Deakin Hawke was bitten by a brown snake during his year six camp in Canberra. Paramedics credit Deakin’s teacher for administering the necessary first aid that saved his life. If it wasn’t for his teachers being skilled in relevant, up to date first aid training, the outcome could have been very different for Deakin. St John offers a number of first aid kits and supplies available for these types of emergencies: • Bites and stings kits, great for camping or outdoor activities • Personal leisure kits, to have around the home • Premium compression bandages, specifically for snake bites Adequate training and the right first aid supplies could save a life! The program is specifically designed with the kids’ learning in mind. It is interactive, fun and communicates key skills that will empower young people with the ability to act in case of an emergency. Since commencement in 2013, St John SA has taught more than 85,000 South Australian primary school students the lifesaving skills of first aid.
