Nov 2018 With his background professionally and as a volunteer, Ian Walsh was elected onto the St John SA Board in November 2018. Having been a member of St John in SA for forty- six years, Ian’s robust working knowledge of the St John infrastructure and business activities has provided him with a good foundation for member advocacy as a Board member. Outside of his primary role as the Deputy State Superintendent, Ian undertakes the responsibilities of a State Duty Officer and has been involved with incident management of major events/incidents both locally and interstate. Ian holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and currently works as a Business Consultant, delivering Human Resources services and strategies to organisations locally and overseas.

Aug 2018 A chartered accountant, Janet is an independent professional director and experienced business adviser having worked in professional services for more than 25 years, the last 15 years as a partner in Big 4 accounting firm, EY. Janet has a strong commercial and finance background with a practical understanding of and experience with the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. She applies her executive, board experience and financial knowledge to improve board governance, risk management and consideration of financial and strategic issues. Janet became an external member of the Community Care Committee in March 2017 and a member of the Board in August 2018. Her other board roles include SA Water Corporation, University of Adelaide and the Libraries Board SA.

Nov 2018 Prior to taking on the role of CEO at ACH Group in December 2016, Ray was the CEO, St John Ambulance SA from September 2015. He has a long and impressive pedigree with over 30 years in emergency ambulance services, beginning as a paramedic, before going on to hold some of the most senior of health and Emergency Ambulance operational and leadership roles in the United Kingdom and Australia. Immediately prior to taking on the CEO role at St John, Ray was Chief Executive NSW Ambulance from early 2013 and had, prior to this, been CEO of SA Ambulance Service since July 2008. As well as his notable achievements in contemporary leadership practice, Ray also brings to the table a unique insight into the command, coordination, communications and leadership of Emergency Response Agencies in responding to significant and crisis events, such as significant bushfires, floods, siege and terrorism situations. Before moving to Australia to take up his role with SA Ambulance Service, Ray held a number of senior leadership positions in ambulance services around the United Kingdom. Ray was instrumental in the improvement of response, clinical and leadership performances of many ambulance services around the UK.

Former Deputy Chair Appointed

Mar 2018 Professor Arbon is a Matthew Flinders Distinguished Professor and Director of the Torrens Resilience Institute of Flinders University. Professor Arbon works across the fields of disaster resilience, mass gathering management and health security. He is Director of the World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Mass Gatherings and Global Health Security, Deputy Chair of the WHO Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for Health Security Interface, Past President of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine and Member of the United Nation’s International Health Regulations Roster of Experts. He is a Fellow of the Australian College of Nursing and the American Academy of Nursing.
