2020/21 HIGHLIGHTS

National Volunteer Week St John SA celebrated the amazing achievements of our big-hearted volunteers with a city parade and public thank you. St John Museum Opening On May 16, the St John Ambulance Museum and Research Centre opened after moving from Unley to Brighton. After many months of hard work and dedication by our extraordinary Historical Society Volunteers, the museum was officially opened by His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AC KStJ, Governor of South Australia and Deputy Prior of the Order of St John in South Australia.

Movie Night at the Drive In Movie Night at the Drive In feauturing the movie Spirit Untamed, raising funds for First Aid in Schools. Community Care Awards Community Care Award recipients were acknowledged for their amazing achievements at celebratory lunches in each of the regions.

Movie Night at the Drive In Movie Night at the Drive In feauturing the movie Raya and the Last Dragon, raising funds for First Aid in Schools. Opening of Mt Gambier Division The new St John Mt Gambier Centre was officially opened in March. An exciting, integral asset to St John SA and the local community, providing a much-needed onsite training facility, patient transport during major events and emergencies, as well as a home for our youth development and social inclusion programs.

ANZAC Day St John SA members came together to remember those who served and died at war, attending ANZAC Eve Youth Vigils, Dawn Services and Commemorations. Volunteers also attended in a response capacity for Diggers and the attending public. Pulse Oximeters Introduction of Pulse Oximeters into operations response kits. Allows EHS medics to monitor patients blood oxygen levels as part of vital signs. Movie Night at the Drive In Movie Night at the Drive In feauturing the movie Peter Rabbit II, raising funds for First Aid in Schools. Authority to Practice Scope Review In line with changes in the recruitment and induction process, Operational members’ scope of practice underwent a review. Upskilling programs were modified to provide members with more applicable skills and knowledge, and the roll out of the programs will commence in the second half of 2021.

Introduction of Phone App Introduction of phone app equipment restocking system at Adelaide Oval medical facilities. Virtual online training sessions Virtual online training sessions provided to EHS volunteers during pandemic lockdown. Topics including new haemorrhage control techniques, neurological conditions, mass casualty incidents and COVID-19. Vaccination centre at Wayville Showgrounds Support to SA Health establishing the mass COVID-19 vaccination centre at Wayville Showgrounds. St John Day St John SA celebrated St John Day by working with Adelaide Oval, the Convention Centre and Salisbury Community Hub to light up red and green to honour St John’s past, present and future and our long history of serving humanity. Regional Cadet Competitions St John Ambulance SA Cadets from across South Australia joined within their respective regions to compete in the Regional Cadet Competitions. The competitions are a true test of first aid knowledge, performance under pressure and a great way for young members to challenge themselves.
