EMERGENCY RESPONSE

Driven by community impact and as the key first aid providers within the State Emergency Management Plan, St John SA is focussed on increasing the state’s preparedness, response and recovery capacity in the event of a State Emergency. As part of the Ambulance and First Aid Functional Service, we can readily mobilise responders to provide support to emergency services during times of disasters such as bushfires, floods, extreme weather events, and unprecedented events like the pandemic. Response in summer increased as we provided first aid support to firefighters on the frontline during the 2020/21 bushfires. We assisted in supporting the public through evacuations and at recovery centres, ensuring they had access to first aid and medical care. As we respond in times of crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic has seen St John SA aiding SA Health at COVID-19 testing sites. We value the multi-agency approach the State Emergency Management Plan fosters for times of State Emergencies or disaster so that the South Australian community can be most effectively supported and protected.
