St John Ambulance SA is a self-funded charity that has been supporting the wellbeing of South Australians for almost 140 years.
We help tens of thousands of people across the state each year through the delivery of health and medical services, first aid training and products, and social inclusion programs. Our comprehensive range of transport services is designed to support those in need of assistance getting from place to place. Our Services Include: • Non-Emergency Patient Transport: Ambulance services for patients requiring a stretcher or medical treatment and monitoring en route • Clinic Car: Door-to-door transportation for individuals who need support to attend medical appointments or to return home after a hospital stay but do not require a stretcher • Community Transport: Available to community members over the age of 18 that are unable to access other forms of transport. The service can be used to access daily tasks such as medical appointments, access to community groups or unassisted shopping. With these services tailored to the unique needs of each individual, we strive to make transportation stress-free, seamless and accessible for all members of the South Australian community no matter their individual needs.

What is Non-Emergency Patient Transport? St John Ambulance SA’s Non-Emergency Patient Transport (NEPT) provides essential transportation for individuals who require medical assistance but are not in a critical condition. This service supports those who cannot travel independently due to health challenges or need specialised medical equipment or care during their journey. Our Services and Coverage We offer comprehensive non-emergency patient transport across South Australia, partnering with local hospitals, clinics, and other health services. Our services include: • Metropolitan transfers: Efficient and timely transport within metropolitan areas • Long-distance transfers: Comfortable and secure transport for longer journeys • Inter-hospital transfers: Reliable transfers between hospitals • Medical appointment transfers: Safe and punctual transport for outpatient visits, including radiotherapy and specialist consultations • Support for aeromedical providers: Road ambulances to assist aeromedical providers, ensuring continuity of care Our Team Our dedicated team ensures a safe and comfortable journey for every patient. Clinic Car
What is the Clinic Car? Access to reliable and affordable transportation is a significant challenge for many, making getting to and from appointments stressful. Our Clinic Car provides door-to-door service for people unable to use public transport or their own means of transportation. The service can be used for medical appointments or returning home after a hospital stay by booking at least 24 hours in advance.
Who is the Clinic Car for? The Clinic Car is designed for patients who do not require active monitoring or treatment, such as cardiac monitoring or oxygen. Eligible patients must be able to self-transfer in and out of a passenger vehicle and walk up to 10 steps. Suitable for elderly individuals, patients with mild disabilities or injuries, and those with limited cognitive impairment. Patients may bring a carer or escort, a collapsible walker or wheelchair, and a small bag of luggage. Modern, hybrid vehicles: Our fleet is powered by our modern, hybrid Clinic Cars with a 5-Star ANCAP Safety Rating, air-conditioning and GPS tracking. You’ll be sure to arrive safely and comfortably Equipped with emergency response equipment: Our dedicated clinicians are trained in basic life support and our vehicles are equipped with emergency response equipment including an AED, oxygen, and a fire extinguisher Comprehensive end-to-end service: We offer a complete end-to-end service from picking up patients, dropping them off to their destination and getting them settled, giving peace of mind A low-cost and effective option: We are committed to efficient transport, without compromising safety 24/7 support: Clinic Car is supported by a 24/7 on-call clinical and operational management team, accessible via the SAGRN paging service Why choose our Clinic Car?

Community Transport
We aim to improve challenges faced by individuals in accessing reliable transport for appointments and activities.
What is the Community Transport Service? Our Community Transport Service is an Operator Accredited program designed to help individuals who face challenges in accessing appointments or daily activities due to transportation barriers. By providing door-to-door service, we ensure individuals can access safe, reliable transport options within their community. Our dedicated team is committed to ensuring you are well cared for during your journey. The Community Transport Service is available to anyone aged over 18 years that experiences barriers to accessing other transport options or who is in receipt of a disability or aged care pension. The service also caters for companions/carers to accompany and for pets to be carried where necessary. Bookings Advanced bookings required: Our Bookings and Scheduling Team is available by phone or email from 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. Booking cut off is 3pm the day prior to your appointment or activity. • To make a booking: Call 0460 945 193, email communitytransport@stjohnsa.com.au or enquire online to discuss client suitability and availability. Please book as early as possible, as bookings fill up fast. • Operational vehicle hours: 8.30am to 5.00pm (last pick-up at 4:30pm), Monday to Friday. Contact us for requirements outside these hours. • Availability: Our vehicles are based in the Southern and Northern suburbs and can travel within metropolitan Adelaide. We recommend booking in advance to secure your transport time.

Do you charge a fee for transport services?
Yes, there is a fee for our transport services. Please contact us for detailed pricing.
What types of patients can use your non-emergency patient transport?
Our Non-Emergency Patient Transport services are available to patients unable to use regular transportation, such as a car, or who require treatment and monitoring during transport. Our team is also trained and equipped to transport infectious patients. I have ambulance cover, can this be used to cover the cost of non-emergency patient transport? St John Ambulance SA is a separate entity from SA Ambulance Service and cannot bill to SA Ambulance Service cover. In some instances, private health insurance may cover the cost of our services. Please check with your insurance provider. An invoice is issued after transport with payment options. When should non-emergency patient transport be used? Non-emergency patient transport should be used for planned transports of low to medium acuity patients between healthcare facilities, medical appointments, and home. If the patient is in a critical condition or requires an unplanned admission to hospital via the Emergency Department, Triple Zero (000) must be contacted. Do you offer transports outside of regular business hours? St John Ambulance SA can provide transports outside of business hours. Call us to discuss your individual needs. Can I use my NDIS plan? St John Ambulance SA can bill to a participant’s NDIS plan if a reasonable and necessary assessment has been completed or a letter of approval from a Local Area Coordinator is submitted at the time of booking. Please call us to discuss further and see if this is suitable for you. Can I use my DVA coverage? The Department of Veterans’ Affairs can confirm eligibility and approve ambulance transport where the eligible person meets one or more of their criteria. Please contact the DVA on 1800 838 372 and obtain approval prior to booking non-emergency patient transport, and provide us with the patient’s DVA card number. Do you have transport options available if I don’t need a non-emergency ambulance? St John Ambulance SA provides both a Clinic Car option and a Community Transport Service for those that don’t require a non-emergency ambulance.
