St John SA Local Government First Aid Education & Compliance
Overview Did you know that workplaces require a minimum number of qualified first aiders? Low-risk workplace – one first aider for every 50 workers High-risk workplace – one first aider for every 25 workers Remote high-risk workplace – one first aider for every 10 workers Nominated first aiders should attend training on a regular basis to refresh their first aid knowledge and skills to ensure they are competent to administer first aid as well as any necessary specialised training. It is recommended that refresher CPR training should be carried out annually with first aid qualifications every three years. First Aid Training The COVID-19 pandemic has presented a range of challenges including the disruption of delivery of first aid training. The first year of the pandemic saw a drop of approximately 400,000 people completing first aid training in Australia. The pandemic also saw a decline in those participating in Mental Health First Aid training. Support within the workplace is crucial and with the pandemic fear growing, meant mental health challenges were at the forefront. While we slowly shift back into a world of normality, it’s important to remember, first aid training is not only applicable to the workplace, it is for every day. https://nationalindustryinsights.aisc.net.au/industries/health/first-aid https://www.ncver.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0042/9667077/Impact_of_COVID_on_industry_innovation.pdf https://www.publicsector.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/215238/002-Covid-19-Support-Wellbeing.pdf Emerging issues
