2019-20 SA Local Government First Aid education Guide

FREE Workplace First Aid Assessments Our dedicated St John First Aid Advisors come to your council and assess the first aid risk for each workplace, establish the minimum requirements in terms of numbers of first aiders and the qualifications needed, as well as the minimum numbers of first aid kits and additional modules and where they should be located. 11 SOLUTIONS We can also review your first aid procedures, or assist in developing them to meet the requirements of all your work sites. Moreover, we can give you advice on recommended actions beyond minimum requirements, achieving the best practice standard for your workplace. Restocking Services We examine your stock levels and integrity of contents, check expiry dates and restock accordingly to meet WHS regulations. We also include an inventory list and affix an audit date label, as required by SafeWork Australia’s First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice. First Aid Drills Regular first aid drills keep you and your team response-ready in between first aid courses. A St John trainer can visit your council and run first aid scenarios with your staff and volunteers. Our first aid drills are fully customisable and can be scheduled throughout the year. Customised Information Sessions Learn about topics relevant to your council area’s specific circumstances, such as common medical conditions including diabetes, asthma or anaphylaxis. We can also visit your council to provide non-accredited community first aid education sessions, for example CPR or AED demonstrations. For very remote areas, we can provide you with free resources to distribute, such as first aid fact sheets. We will provide you with an obligation-free comprehensive report.

First Aid Training Overview Our comprehensive range of services can be delivered on- site, so there is no need for you or your team to travel across town or the state. All training courses are available on-site, but there is more: whether it be first aid compliance, first aid restocking services or support in providing first aid at council events, you can get all of your first aid needs covered in one place with St John SA. With first aid drills and procedures playing a crucial part in the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice, we can also assist you in this regard to help you meet WHS legislation. Emerging issues A 2017 survey on First Aid Readiness in South Australian local government found over 75% of workplaces had not had a first aid risk assessment conducted within the last 12 months, despite legislation requiring organisations to conduct a thorough risk assessment for each site to determine the level of risk, how to control them, and review for effectiveness every 12 months. 1 St John SA can help with free workplace first aid assessments, as well as restocking services, advice or drills and procedures.
