Our everyday heroes

They say not all heroes wear capes, but in our case, they do wear greens! St John Event Health Services volunteers in their iconic green uniform provide the highest quality health and medical services at a range of events throughout South Australia. Having provided this service to the community for over 135 years, countless lives have been saved thanks to St John volunteers. Attending over 2,000 events on average each year, our great state relies on St John services to put on and attend the many incredible festivals, shows, sporting events and more that we are world-renowned for. They don’t call us the Festival State for nothing!

Additionally, we have a thriving Youth Development program, which sees hundreds of young South Australians getting involved in learning a range of first aid and life skills, and applying their knowledge to assist at events alongside qualified adult mentors. Our rich history is also well documented and maintained by a group of passionate Historical Society volunteers, who can tell you all there is to know about St John. Every single one of our volunteer members makes an outstanding contribution to the South Australian community. They give their time freely to care for and help others, all without expectation of recognition or reward. They would never admit it themselves, but they’re everyday heroes to us. If you are in a position to support St John volunteers, your kind donation today will help cover the annual costs of training and equipping our teams to provide the very best health and medical care when you and your loved ones need us most. Donations over $2 made before 30 June are also tax-deductible this financial year.

But it’s not just our Event Health Services volunteers making an impact in the community. We also have a dedicated team of Community Care volunteers who provide companionship, social connection and assistance to older South Australians with a wellness and reablement focus.

The cost to save a life

If you have been to an event in South Australia, you have more than likely seen a St John volunteer on duty in their green uniform. What you might not have seen is what goes on behind the scenes to equip them with the skills and knowledge to save a life. Not only does it take time and dedication from our volunteers to gain this vital knowledge, it also comes at a significant cost to St John to provide the necessary training and equipment. Each volunteer goes through initial training to an Event Responder level, enabling them to provide health and medical services at events. Ongoing training is provided to all volunteers who undergo an annual reaccreditation process. Additional opportunities are also provided to gain more advanced qualifications throughout their volunteer journey. Response First Aid (RFA) Kits
